Meet the 2015 EBS Board

  • Diversity Chair
  • Coordination Chair
  • Education Chair
  • Mentoring Chair
  • Community Outreach Chair

Olivia Bernal

As our Diversity Chair, Olivia serves as liaison with the Program for Diversity and Inclusion and sits on the Diversity and Inclusion Student Advisory Committee. She also seeks to connect EBS with other graduate women’s groups within and beyond the Penn Medical Community.
Olivia grew up in Northern California. She attended Penn for undergrad and graduated in 2012 with a degree in Biological Basis of Behavior. Although a California girl at heart, she considers Philadelphia her second home.  When she isn’t napping in the library between classes, she enjoys listening to music, sipping tea, and frequenting Philly’s BYOs with friends.

Jessica Dong

Jessica is our Coordination Chair. She is responsible for organizing our meetings, taking notes, managing the budget, liaising between the EBS board, the Medical Student Government, and all EBS members.  She keeps the group organized by putting together our event calendar and keeping us on track to meet our goals for the year.

Jessica calls many places home, including Rockville, MD and San Francisco, CA. She graduated from Dartmouth college in 2012 majoring in Biology and minoring in Environmental Studies. In her free time she enjoys going to farmer's markets, cooking, playing volleyball, and running.

Christy Hong

As our Education Chair, Christy coordinates various events to educate and empower our student community on gender-related issues in the medical career.  These include lunch talks and workshops on various topics that are relevant to women in medicine.

Christy feels attached to parts of Korea, Canada, and the US—where she grew up at different points in her life. She graduated from Harvard College in 2012 with a degree in Economics, worked a bit, and did a post-bac program at Bryn Mawr College. When she is not catching up on schoolwork, she likes to exercise (jogging, hiking, yoga, hiphop dancing, you name it), watch not-too-serious TV shows, and eat good food with friends.

Gia Yannekis

As our Mentoring Chair, Gia connects first year students with faculty and second year student mentors.  She works to recruit faculty and upperclass mentors, pair students and mentors based on common interests, and plans the big "reveal" event where first years meet their second year "bigs".  She also organizes mentorship-based events including the MS1/MS4 mixer and a residency panel.
Gia grew up in Brookline, MA and graduated from Barnard College with a degree in Sociology in 2013.  In her free time, she enjoys traveling (particularly to microstates), watching musicals and romantic comedies, eating Magnolia cupcakes with her best friend, and people watching on public transportation.

Rosaline Zhang

Rosaline acts as our Community Outreach Chair.  She coordinates our annual "Paths to Medicine" outreach event with young girls in the local community, as well as our "Matriarchs of PennMed" dinner and panel. Rosaline also runs our website!

Rosaline grew up in the suburbs of Seattle. Although she loves the beautiful Pacific Northwest, she also calls Philadelphia her home.  Rosaline graduated from Penn in 2014, with a double major in Urban Studies and Biology. In her free time, Rosaline enjoys running, listening to podcasts, baking vegan desserts and planning surprise birthday parties.
